FROM Previous Events
Behold the Bard poetry competition on Sunday morning was a triumph and will be part of the 2009 festival. We hope to see repeat performers and new blood.
Celtic Celebration!
How green was her mantle
In the granite of the town
She sang the Celtic song of olde
The pipes marched up and down
Harps were played, dancers tapped
Coloured flags did flutter fast
The Historic town of Beechworth
Regaling in it’s past
The Bards stood on the balcony
Reciting their poems to the throng
Campbell, Rowan, Rhonda & Bill
Some words became a song
Workshops they attended
Penny whistle, fiddle, drum
You could hear the mirth of mishaps
Amongst the rattle and hum
Sitting quietly for the musical
Ancestral thoughts did stir
For past lives persecuted
Celts suffer thankfully no more
Then up struck the bodhran
With hankies tucked away
We clapped and cheered en masse
To the rhythm of the day
Three days they did but come
To the town this last November
For a Celtic Celebration
Of the likes we’d all remember
Once we’d sung the Parting Glass
And the visitors gone home
The streets again lay quiet
Till next year again they come.
